Courtney Bailey, LICSW, with the Boston Medical Center will provide a 90-minute training on the impact of family violence on children. Her presentation will be grounded in trauma-informed, evidence-based research and will include specifics on prevention and intervention efforts for children who witness violence in their home or community. The Child Witness to Violence Project http://www.childwitnesstoviolence.org/  a counseling, advocacy and outreach project that focuses on young children who are hidden victims of domestic and community violence, and other trauma-related events. In addition, the program implements both national and state-focused training for mental health clinicians, health care professionals, police, educators, and many other social service professionals who work with children who have witnessed violence and experienced traumatic grief. The presentation will be followed by a panel of local professionals crossing multiple sectors (police, human service, mental health, education, medical, legal) who work with children witnessing violence on a regular basis in their various professional capacities. The panel will focus on how we as a community can better respond to and support the youngest members of our community who are impacted by violence.
